The AcuRite 01007M Atlas Weather Station is a premium weather monitoring system for your home or business that includes temperature, humidity, wind speed, wind direction, rainfall, UV index, light intensity, and lightning detection (optional, but included in the one I ordered) sensors. The station comes with the Atlas sensor system itself, mounting bracket and hardware, access point with power adapter and Ethernet cable, HD display with power adapter and wall mounting bracket, and instructions. Again, I ordered the optional lightning detector module, so that was included as well.
The Atlas sensor allows for remote, wireless weather monitoring (433 MHz) and is powered with four AA batteries (not included). The wireless range is about 100 meters, depending on your home’s construction materials. The sensor includes solar cells to power an internal aspirating fan to reduce solar radition heating, which results in a more accurate local temperature measurement–install the unit facing South if you are in the Northern Hemisphere.
The lightning detection sensor fits into a slot next to the batteries. The sensor can detect lightning strikes within a range of one to twenty-five miles. Note that you can use alkaline batteries, though lithium batteries are recommended for temperatures below -4 degrees Fahrenheit.
The HD display shows all needed information clearly–on first set up the display even walks you through all the steps to get your weather station up and running. With the antenna extended and the tabletop stand attached (mounting bracket on back of the display for a wall mount) the dimensions are 10.25 inches high by 6.8 inches wide by 2 inches deep. The LCD display itself measures about 7 inches on the diagonal.
The display also has a touch interface, so you can touch the displayed icons on the various screens to see historical and forecast information, access menu screens and settings, etc. For example, you can set alarms to provide visual and audible notifications when temperature, humidity, rainfall, wind speed, time, and forecasted storm events occur. You can also insert an SD card (up to 32 GB) into the display to log weather data.
The access point connects to an available Ethernet port on your home network router using the included Ethernet cable. You can use three AA alkaline batteries in the access point for backup (not included). The access point is 2.8 inches in diameter and 4.5 inches tall. Note that the access point does not support 802.11 and make sure DHCP is enabled on your router.
If you sign up for an account and register your access point, you can configure the app to read and display weather information from your Atlas sensor. This allows you to view weather conditions even when you are not near the physical display.
Altogether, the AcuRite 01007M Atlas Weather Station is a powerful way to receive realtime weather information, whether you are at home or on travel. The HD display shows easy-to-read weather information, and the touch interface allows for each scrolling through historical or forecast data, or for changing or callibrating weather station settings and sensors. The Atlas sensor system itself is a high-end configurable system that gives you the weather information you need, when you need it.
