Ever wondered how synthesizers make all those crazy sounds? One way has to do with the amplitude envelope.
Synthesizers are an important component of modern music and are also useful for understanding sound design. A subtractive synthesizer is one which uses the application of a filter to alter the timbre of an audio signal, and the amplitude envelope is used to control how the volume of the sound changes over time.
In this short tutorial video I discuss the components of the amplitude envelope and give some examples of different envelope types and the sounds they produce.
The synthesizer I’ll be demoing is the AlphaFREE synthesizer from LinPlug in GarageBand.
