If you are looking for a home theater projector with great image quality, the BenQ HT2050A 1080P DLP Home Theater Projector is a solid choice.
This BenQ projector is a 1080p projector with a brightness of 2,200 Lumens. Note that this projector uses DLP display technology, which uses a matrix of microscopically small mirrors for smooth, jitter-free images. This is the technology used, for example, in IMAX theaters.
Included in the box are the projector + power cable, instructions, an installation CD, and remote + battery. Note that no media cables are included. The projector dimensions are about 15 x 11 x 5 in and the projector weighs a little over 7 pounds.
There are a variety of ports and media connection options. On the back of the unit are ports for power, VGA input, RCA Video and R/L Audio input, 2 HDMI inputs, USB-A, USB-mini-B, 3.5mm audio in, and 3.5mm audio out. Note that this projector does not have a WiFi option.
The top of the projector includes buttons for power and menu navigation, as well as indictor lights and focus controls.
From the high resolution full HD 1080p (1920x1080 pixels) display, images are very smooth–ideal for the home cinema. The 10W speaker audio is surprisingly good for a projector. Moreover, the projector has a low input lag (16ms) meaning it is also ideal for gaming. Note that these images are projected onto my 120" screen.
This projector supports a variety of mounting options, though no mounting hardware is included. You can position the projector on a table for front or rear projection, as well as on the ceiling, also for front or rear projection. With 2D Keystone, you can even position the projector off perpendicular from your screen as the projector provides horizontal and vertical keystone correction.
In use, I was very happy with this projector for home cinema applications. As long as the ambient light was not too bright, the images were clear and sharp, and the resolution providing the full HD experience. I also liked having the option of an audio out port so I could use my powered speaker, though the built-in speaker was not bad, as far as projector speakers go. This projector also works very well for business presentations if it will be mounted permanently in a conference room, because its size means it’s not portable. It’s ideal in the home, for gaming and watching movies in big screen goodness.
