If your home is damp or if you need to help clean up from a water spill, the Kenmore 55550 50 Pint Dehumidifier is a medium-sized dehumidifier that is easy to use and has convenient features. The unit is called a “50 pint” dehumidifier because it is rated to dehumidify up to 50 pints of water per day. The dimensions of the 50 pint unit are 14.1" x 22.7" x 12.2" and the unit weighs 39.3 pounds.
The controls for the dehumidifier are on the top of the unit. The touch sensitive panel includes controls for:
- Power on/off
- Auto, high, and low fan motor modes
- Humidistat increase/decrease arrows, from 35% to 70% humidity in 5% increments (you can force continuous operation by pressing the down arrow when the humidistat reads 35%)
- 3, 6, and 12 hour cycle timers
- 1-12 hour delay start times
- Bucket full indicator.
Note that when the unit is turned off and then restarted, the dehumidifier will run in the same mode it was previously in. In the event of a power failure, the unit will resume in Auto mode.
On the back of the unit there is a gravity drain connection, which allows you to attach a standard drain hose. The back of the unit also has prongs around which you can wrap the electric cord when note in use.
The bucket slides out in the front and has a capacity of 19.2 pints. Also, with the bucket removed you can remove the air filter for cleaning purposes.
All in all, the Kenmore 55550 50 Pint Dehumidifier is a very convenient dehumidifier. Note that this 50 pint unit is Energy Star rated, which actually makes it more efficient than the smaller 35 pint version. The noise of the 50 pint unit is not too loud, the bucket is easy to empty and replace, and the controls allow for flexibility in how the unit can run (eg cycle timers and delay start time options). There are side handle grips in case you need to pick up the unit, as well as rollers for easy positioning. I am very happy with this dehumidifier.
