The first time I went to Milan it was during Christmas, and the piazza in front of the Duomo was filled with vendors selling roasted chestnuts, gifts, decorations, and candies. One of the chocolates I tried was made by a company called Baci, and it was one of the best bites of chocolate I ever had. And now, with the Baci Perugina Milk Chocolate Bar I can bring back those memories and that taste year-round.

The blue box comes with eighteen 5.2 ounce bars of milk chocolate and chopped hazelnuts. Each bar double-wrapped (paper and foil) and marked into seven sections, so you can break off a section at a time. In fact, I find that two sections is the perfect amount. There are two layers of chocolate: an inner layer of gianduja chocolate with chopped hazelnuts and an outer layer of a creamy, sweet milk chocolate that melts in your mouth. You can read the ingredients list—only wholesome foods go into each bar. In fact, the quality of the chocolate is so good that I wonder if these bars might melt when shipped during the summer.

While the chocolate is dreamy, the hazelnuts are the star. They keep the chocolate from going too far over the top, bringing nuance to the bite and taste. I find the balance between chocolate and nuts to be about right—not too much chocolate and not too many nuts.

Overall, this is a very satisfying chocolate. It is definitely a sweet milk chocolate though, so be warned if you prefer dark. But other than being sure to store the bars away from heat, I think you’ll really enjoy bringing a taste of Italy into your home with the Baci Perugina Milk Chocolate Bars.
