A Stonecoast residency is very intense. After five days of catching the bus at 7:45AM each morning and ending programmed activities each evening around 10:00PM or so, not counting extra workshop assignments, catching up on laundry, email, and phone calls to home, the intense work ethic and lack of sleep does take its tole.
So the built-in release valve of a few hours “off” after the first workshop has completed is a chance for catching up on sleep, laundry, supplies, phone calls, work, email, and just plain relaxation.
The PopFic genre folks decided to have their group dinner this evening, and after a social meal at the Sea Dog Brewery, many of them retired to the dorm lounge, for an evening of games and conversation free of impending workshop deadlines.
But the relaxation, though welcome, is brief, because the bus departs at 7:45 AM the next day. We are here, after all, to write.
